Parts of a whip

The POPPER is string or thread that has a bushy end that makes the pop

The FALL is a single strand at the point of the whip that is connected at the very end of the braided portion. It serves to both continue the taper down from the thong to the cracker, and also take the brunt of the abuse at the point of the whip where it may make contact with other objects (when cutting, or wrapping targets for example).

The THONG is the flexible section of the whip, and does not include the rigid handle. It consists of a braided overlay, which in a good whip will be covering a core as well as other fully plaited bellies. Technically, there is a mini-whip inside the whip

The HANDLE differs between styles of whips (Stockwhip, Bullwhip, etc.) and is usually made from  wood, or flexible cane, or some kind of metal ( steel or aluminum) and is usually fully covered in braiding/plaiting. In the case of stock whips, the handle may be only plaited around half of the length.

The BELLY is what is inside the braided thong. In a good whip this will itself be braided out of strands of either nylon or leather, but in a cheaper whip it may be strips of leather or rawhide, or even rope or paper.

The KNOT is the knob on the end of the handle.
